The international friendship seminar, known as BuYuKai, has confirmed for the fifth time the traditional friendship between the members of Bujinkan Macedonia and Bujinkan Turkey. 

This time the event was held at the city between two continents, the famous city of the Bosphorus – Istanbul. The event took place with around forty participants from Macedonia, Turkey, Bulgaria and Iran, who dedicated themselves to tirelessly learning from the instructor Igor Dovezenski and the host Erjan Sharbat.

Besides the training, the participants spend their time exploring the city together and learning more about the culture and history of their host country.

This past weekend was dedicated to training techniques for simultaneous drawing and cutting with a sword, or in other words – Iaijutsu. 

The weather was pleasant, the nights aglow with the light of the full moon, and nature was full with the first signs of the approaching Fall. All that made for a special atmosphere during this seminar dedicated to the Japanese sword. 

During the seminar several Iai and Batto techniques were taught, all from schools that Igor Dovezenski is the representative of in Macedonia, unsurprisingly the participants showed great interest and joyfully absorbed their teacher’s lessons. 

With the eminent arrival of Fall, the end of the seminar season at the Hombu is fast approaching, there are no more than a few seminars remaining at our dojo’s backbone – the Hombu.

The first Japanese zen garden in Macedonia, together with the “Ninja Village” project, continue to arouse the Macedonian people’s interest in this beautiful and unique place.  

After a fruitful year long partnership, mainly focused on Japanese Yoga (Shinobi Taiso) classes, with the successful Macedonian company TGG – MK, they decided to grant us the opportunity to organize a team building event for them, which was held at our Hombu Dojo and its surrounding areas. 

And so, this past weekend the employees of TGG – MK had the opportunity to partake in the different activities and beautiful nature that our Hombu and its surroundings provide, they were also treated to some amazing food made from locally sourced organic products, some of which came from our own garden at the Hombu.

An agreement was made, to mutual satisfaction, that our cooperation shall continue and that there shall probably be another team building event in the spring, replete with some new experiences and adventures.

This past weekend, in the small but beautiful town of Novi Becaj in Serbia, the third BuYuKai Serbia seminar was held. 

This international seminar is one of the biggest in the region, and in it take part with over eighty participants from several South-east European countries.

Each year the number of instructors continues to grow, and so in 2023 teachers from Turkey and Germany decided to take part in this seminar. 

The teacher Igor Dovezenski decided to teach the school Shinken Gata Tora no Maki, which caused a flurry of emotions in the participants and was greeted with great applause, many subsequently approached the teacher with questions about the techniques that make up this school. Slowly, but surely, Dovezenski is becoming famous in the Bujinkan community as an instructor that specializes in all the schools that are part of Takamatsu’s heritage, or specifically a master of the form’s (kata) which he performs with great precision and confidence. 

The next international seminar during which Dovezenski will teach is the Istanbul seminar – in the Republic of Turkey, which will take place this October.

One day after the Bow and Arrow seminar, a seminar was held dedicated to shooting with a samurai rifle – Hojutsu.

During the event, the teacher Dovezenski taught his students the ways and techniques of shooting with a Tanegashima, with a substitute air-rifle for safety reasons. 

All of the seminar’s participants showed exemplary results, which is a clear example that with regular training your skills can only improve.

On the 16th of September (Saturday), at a palace called Vrtaca near the Hombu Dojo of Bujinkan Macedonia, a seminar was held on the topic of Bow and Arrow shooting (YumiYa).

And is our annual tradition, besides shooting with the Japanese Hankyu, the participants had the opportunity to try out some shooting techniques with other types of Asian bows, all with the goal of better understanding the core concepts of this art.

The bow and arrow seminars have always garnered a lot of iterset from the members of Bujinkan Macedonia, and by the end of this seminar the participants were already voicing their interest in being part of the next one.

The legendary Summer Ninja Camp of Bujinkan Macedonia had its fifteenth anniversary and managed to attract a record breaking 25 participants. The topics for this legendary event’s 2023 iteration were Shinden Fudo ryu Dakentaijutsu and Kukishinden ryu Jojutsu. 

As it has always been, so it was again, the event was filled with amazing content, its atmosphere was indescribable, and all of the memories of it shall forever remain treasured in the hearts of its participants.

Next year we promise you a complete Togakure ryu experience – because all the topic’s are connected with this ancient ninja school, and because of this the interest is so overwhelming that we are already seeing inquiries about the possibility of preemptively reserving a spot on the participant list.

In the period between the 27th of july and the 2nd of august, at the Hombu Dojo of Bujinkan Macedonia, the best kids summer camp in the country and probably in the region took place.

This event, which was originally meant only for the youngest members of Bujinkan Macedonia, slowly started accepting kids from outside the Dojo, and this year we also had participants from abroad, namely the Czech Republic, who had an amazing time at this incredible event.

The Kids Ninja Camp is slowly but surely becoming one of the best, fun and adventure-wise, camps for kids in the world, and there is no better proof of this than the fact that there are already reservations being made for next year’s camp.

After every visit to the Land of the Rising Sun, upon his return to his home country of Macedonia, the teacher Igor Dovezenski organizes the traditional Nihon no Kankaku (Impressions from Japan) seminar, during which he shares some of the knowledge he gathered through training with the Japanese teachers. 

This past week was wholly dedicated to this seminar, and during it the participants had the opportunity to learn a lot of diverse techniques that were gathered during the last Japanese visit.

The amazing atmosphere was only improved by the willingness of the participants from Bujinkan Macedonia to train long and hard. 

The only thing that remains to be done this summer is this year’s iteration of our flagship event – The Summer Ninja Camp.

After a hiatus of several years caused by the COVID pandemic and it’s travel restrictions, the teacher of Bujinkan Macedonia – Igor Dovezenski, together with his son Petar, visited the Japanese teachers and again trained at the heart of Bujinkan in the city of Noda.

The working visit took place from the 11th to the 27th of June, and in addition to the muriad training sessions in the Hombu Dojo, many important meetings and conversations were had with the new heirs of the schools of Bujinkan. 

During the visit, Igor and Petar Dovezenski refreshed and improved their knowledge by training with the teachers: Toshiro Nagato, Yukio Noguchi, Hiroshi Nagase, Isamu Shiraishi, Tetsuji Ishizuka, Vataru Tezuka and others. During most of the training sessions in the Hombu Dojo, Igor Dovezenski had the role of Uke (the person upon whom the technique is shown, meaning the person that helps the teacher show and teach the technique).

What little free time they had, the Dovezenski dedicated themselves to visiting the temples connected with the creation of some of the classical martial arts. They also visited and cleaned the graves of the creators of Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto ryu and Ono ha Itto ryu.
