On the 16th of September (Saturday), at a palace called Vrtaca near the Hombu Dojo of Bujinkan Macedonia, a seminar was held on the topic of Bow and Arrow shooting (YumiYa).

And is our annual tradition, besides shooting with the Japanese Hankyu, the participants had the opportunity to try out some shooting techniques with other types of Asian bows, all with the goal of better understanding the core concepts of this art.

The bow and arrow seminars have always garnered a lot of iterset from the members of Bujinkan Macedonia, and by the end of this seminar the participants were already voicing their interest in being part of the next one.

In the period between the 27th of july and the 2nd of august, at the Hombu Dojo of Bujinkan Macedonia, the best kids summer camp in the country and probably in the region took place.

This event, which was originally meant only for the youngest members of Bujinkan Macedonia, slowly started accepting kids from outside the Dojo, and this year we also had participants from abroad, namely the Czech Republic, who had an amazing time at this incredible event.

The Kids Ninja Camp is slowly but surely becoming one of the best, fun and adventure-wise, camps for kids in the world, and there is no better proof of this than the fact that there are already reservations being made for next year’s camp.

After every visit to the Land of the Rising Sun, upon his return to his home country of Macedonia, the teacher Igor Dovezenski organizes the traditional Nihon no Kankaku (Impressions from Japan) seminar, during which he shares some of the knowledge he gathered through training with the Japanese teachers.

This past week was wholly dedicated to this seminar, and during it the participants had the opportunity to learn a lot of diverse techniques that were gathered during the last Japanese visit.

The amazing atmosphere was only improved by the willingness of the participants from Bujinkan Macedonia to train long and hard.

The only thing that remains to be done this summer is this year’s iteration of our flagship event – The Summer Ninja Camp.

The teacher Dovezenski in Japan again

After a hiatus of several years caused by the COVID pandemic and it’s travel restrictions, the teacher of Bujinkan Macedonia – Igor Dovezenski, together with his son Petar, visited the Japanese teachers and again trained at the heart of Bujinkan in the city of Noda.

The working visit took place from the 11th to the 27th of June, and in addition to the muriad training sessions in the Hombu Dojo, many important meetings and conversations were had with the new heirs of the schools of Bujinkan.

During the visit, Igor and Petar Dovezenski refreshed and improved their knowledge by training with the teachers: Toshiro Nagato, Yukio Noguchi, Hiroshi Nagase, Isamu Shiraishi, Tetsuji Ishizuka, Vataru Tezuka and others. During most of the training sessions in the Hombu Dojo, Igor Dovezenski had the role of Uke (the person upon whom the technique is shown, meaning the person that helps the teacher show and teach the technique).

What little free time they had, the Dovezenski dedicated themselves to visiting the temples connected with the creation of some of the classical martial arts. They also visited and cleaned the graves of the creators of Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto ryu and Ono ha Itto ryu.

The fourth international BuYuKai

The fourth in a row international BuYuKai seminar has taken place, as agreed, this time it was held in Macedonia. During the event 42 practitioners from Turkey and the host country trained together.

As always, interest in the BuYuKai event was overwhelming, but, owing to organizational restrictions, the number of participants was limited, and so the maximum capacity was already filled several weeks before the event even began.

This year’s topic was Henka Waza, this means that we trained how to adapt existing techniques and create variants that can be momentarily changed to react to different kinds of attacks by our opponent.

The BuYuKai event’s hosts from Bujinkan Macedonia made sure that every second that guests from the Republic of Turkey spent in Macedonia was well spent, they visited many tourist and archaeological sites throughout the Republic, so that the beauties of ancient Macedonia can be represented in the best possible light.

And now, something from one of the participants:

“Bujinkan Macedonia continues to write history. I have this feeling that BuYuKai is a form of competition, but it’s not a martial arts tournament, it’s more of a hospitality contest and a battlefield in which each warrior fights using the tools of culture and carries the banners of his traditions. We had an amazing weekend. The training was incredible and the tempo was unrelenting, the Dojo sometimes seemed to be a battlefield. We visited some amazing places, among which was the magical Kuklica. We also had a few accidents, but that was more of a test of will and endurance sent to us by the martial gods. The friendship between us and Bujinkan Turkey blossomed and I am sure that we shall remain close for the foreseeable future.” – Taki Gakovski.

This past Sunday was tailor made for a Fukiya seminar and so the members of Bujinkan Macedonia had the opportunity to improve their capabilities with this ancient and simple tool.

During the event the teacher Igor Dovezenski taught his students the shooting stances with this weapon and how to make their own darts.

Satisfied with the information gained, the students asked their teacher if it was possible to add the Fukiya to the regular yearly roster of seminars in Bujinkan Macedonia.

At the event’s conclusion, inside the Hombu Dojo, certificates were awarded to the members of our dojo that recently passed their degree advancement tests, the certificates were sent and signed personally by the founder of Bujinkan Dojo, soke Masaaki Hatsumi.

One day after the Kukishin ryu Naginata seminar, another seminar focusing on the Naginata was held, but this time concerning the techniques from the school of Shinden Fudo ryu.

The intent of the teacher Dovezenski was for his students to have the opportunity to compare the ways of using this weapon in both traditions, and with that expand their knowledge and experience.

Because of the rainy weather, the second seminar was held inside the Dojo, but the students made sure that the previous day’s atmosphere was preserved.

Kukishin ryu Naginata

This past Saturday at the Hombu of the Organisation “Taiyou e no Michi ” a seminar about the Naginata, a classical Japanese weapon from the school of Kukishin ryu, was held.

The school, whose creator is Jakushimaru Kurando Takanao, is known for its rigid fighting techniques, and considering the size of the Naginata, the effects of the exertion this demanded was evident in the difficulties that the students had in following the instructions of the teacher Dovezenski.

During the event, all of the fighting stances (kamae) and all of the katas from this school were thoroughly drilled.

Like all other bow and arrow (Yumi Ya) seminars, this latest one, that was held this past Sunday at the forest of Mlaka in the vicinity of the Hombu, sparked a great deal of interest in the students of Bujinkan Macedonia.

In a wonderful atmosphere, only made better by the four targets and five bows present, the members of Bujinkan Macedonia had the opportunity to shoot from several different body positions, meaning shooting stances.

At the completion of the event, the participants expressed their delight at having been part of this event and their willingness to come back again.
