As an eminent professor at the Japanese University of Mie and a leading researcher of the history of the legendary Ninja warriors and their Ninjutsu arts, d-r Yuji Yamada was a guest, this past Tuesday, of the leader of Bujinkan Macedonia – Igor Dovezenski.

During their meeting, which was held at the Hombu Dojo of the Macedonian Bujinkan organization, professor Yamada and the teacher Dovezenski discussed many different topics pertaining to the history, philosophy, psychology and techniques of the ancient Japanese art of Ninjutsu. While sharing their knowledge and experience, these highly educated people had the opportunity to expand and reinforce their already sizable knowledge about the hidden world of the shinobi warriors.

The professor Yamada was pleasantly surprised by the enormous knowledge that the teacher Dovezenski possessed, especially his knowledge about the Japanese traditions and culture, he was further delighted by the Japanese zen garden that the leader of Bujinkan Macedonia managed to create in these past few years, forming it according to all the rules that govern the creation of a garden of this type. In fact, the Japanese professor was simply amazed by the fact that someone that was born and lives in Macedonia could, on their own, build a Japanese dojo and create a complete Japanese garden with an entire Ninja Village in an almost perfect simulacra of medieval life in Japan.

During the traditional Macedonian comunal lunch in the shadow of the Hombus’s great walnut trees, Dovezenski and Yamada agreed upon the need for further cooperation through a visit of the University of Mie by the leader of Bujinkan Macedonia and their continued and mutual sharing of knowledge and experiences on the topic of Ninjutsu.

HoJutsu at the Homby

One day after the Bow and Arrow seminar, under a heavy blanket of rain, wind and chill, the rifle marksmanship (HoJutsu) seminar was successfully held.
The goal of this seminar is to train correct body positions and methods of firing a samurai rifle, but through the use of an air rifle as a substitute.

Neither the pervading chill, nor our soaked clothes managed to dampen our spirit and our willingness to train. On the contrary, we spent our time admiring the beautiful nature surrounding us, and enjoying the time spent in the company of our dojo’s members.

This time, in addition to the regular training sessions with the teachers from the Homby Dojo in the city of Noda, the journey was used to study many other different arts that stem from the rich culture and traditions of the Land of the Rising Sun.

So, besides the samurai and ninja arts, the teacher Igor Dovezenski also dedicated himself to studying the secrets of creating a Japanese zen garden, and the tea ceremony known as Chado.

Furthermore, he visited the province of Shiga or more accurately he visited the city of Koga (Koka), which is known as one of the birthplaces of Ninjutsu (the second is Iga). There Dovezenski met with members, descendants, of the Fujibayashi family whose ancestors were famous Shinobi warriors, later he also managed to visit their family’s home which is dotted with hidden false walls, tunnels and passageways that they could use to escape their enemies.

This martial journey was also a spiritual journey for the leader of Bujinkan Macedonia, who visited several temples and gardens: Senso-Ji in Asakusa – Tokyo, then Kodai-Ji and Kiyomizu-Dera in Kyoto and finally Narita-san in the city of Narita (he also visited many other smaller Shinto and Buddhist temples throughout Japan).
