This past weekend, in Macedonia, was held the jubilee tenth in a row BuYuKai seminar, this traditional event has managed to attract a growing number of traditional Japanese martial arts lovers.

Although it was announced that the seminar shall be jointly led by the longstanding friends and collaborators Igor Dovezenski and Erjan Sharbat from Turkey, due to some unforeseen complications Erjan was sadly not able to make the trip to Macedonia.

The honour and duty therefore fell completely on the shoulders of the teacher Igor Dovezenski, who chose the schools of Shinden Fudo ryu Dakentaijutsu and Iaijutsu as the main topic of this BuYuKai. During the several multihour training sessions the principles, katas and practical applications of this ancient school were studied and applied, giving particular attention to the ways in which the human body tends to move. Furthermore, time was dedicated to teaching the correct ways to manage distance and learning the specifics that make Shinden Fudo ryu so unique amongst all of the classical Japanese traditions.
We were overjoyed by the fact that this year’s BuYuKai managed to set a new attendance record. Forty people participated in the event, which is the greatest number of participants that this seminar has ever had. The high level of interest on display by the people attending showed that the idea of BuYuKai as a place to make friends, exchange knowledge and seek mutual improvement is spreading and growing.

As is tradition, besides the training, time was given over to getting to know about the cultural and historical richness of Macedonia. The participants got to revisit Kratovo, one of the oldest and most picturesque cities in our country, where they had the chance to see its well known towers, bridges and classical architecture.

Some good memories were also made during our walk through the village of Dovezence, during which the participants had the opportunity to witness some of the historical and cultural highpoints of this region. Surrounded by this welcoming atmosphere filled with friends, conversations and experiences, the participants had the opportunity to get a good feel for the many traditions and well known hospitality which are cornerstones of Macedonian culture.

This tenth BuYuKai showed that the real values of this martial art are not to be found exclusively in the training room. Friendship, mutual respect, the wish to learn and the shared memories are the true treasures that every participant takes with them upon leaving this seminar.
See you at the next BuYuKai – in Istanbul.
